The seeds of St. John Paul II College, Wennappuwa were sown on April 30th, 2014 with the fruitful thought which conceived in the mind of His Lordship, Rt. Rev. We started our St. John Paul II English Medium College on May 05, 2014 and after that we started our second college in the heart of Wennappuwa as a Cambridge college under the same name and as our third college we started our school in Chilaw and then in 2018 in Puttalam and then in 2023 in Kalmunai. So, when we look at those five schools, we have throughout the Puttalam District a total of five schools under the name of St. John Paul II.
Within a mere 12 years, the St. John Paul II Education movement today has grown into the John Paul II network of Education, which consists of higher education institute, four English medium colleges and the international college. The success of St. John Paul II Network of Education is in striking a 'golden mean' between a very modern English education and affordability in the socio-economic situation in the district of Puttalam. It has become a 'brand' in itself of modern English education in Sri Lanka, and under the new leadership of Rt. Rev. Dr. Wimal Siri Jayasuriya, Bishop of the diocese of Chilaw, is always on the lookout to tweak its product in consonance with ever-emerging trends in modern education.
